Men pleated pants made from Patternalism sewing pattern #0202 – front view, female model

PANTS, PATTERN #0202

€28

A men's pants sewing pattern PDF in EU sizes 46–56 — structural knee darts originating from both the side and inseams, inverted box pleats at the front and back, elastic waistband with a drawstring and a faux fly detail. The knee darts are what make this pattern unusual: they create intentional volume exactly where the leg bends, so the pants move with you. Deep side-seam pockets integrated into the design.

We designed these pants for those who want clothing that does more than look considered. The knee dart — engineered from both the side seam and the inseam — is a construction detail you will not find in standard patterns.

The shape is driven by that dart: it creates volume precisely at the point of maximum movement, so the pants follow the leg rather than restrict it. Inverted box pleats at the front and back reinforce the geometry, keeping the silhouette sharp in motion. The faux fly and elastic waistband keep the external lines clean while making the construction straightforward.

What makes this construction distinctive:

  • The Knee Architecture: Darts originating from both the side seam and the inseam create structural volume at the knee. An engineering solution that reads as a design detail.
  • Comfort Without Compromise: A wide internal elastic waistband with a drawstring gives a precise, adjustable fit. The mock fly detail keeps the front clean and tailored in appearance.
  • Designed to Sew: Despite the visual complexity, the construction is laid out step by step. The result looks technical; the sewing process is not.

To maintain the intended "architectural" form, choose medium to heavy-weight fabrics with good recovery and structure:

  • Knits: Structured jersey, heavy-weight ponte, or scuba.
  • Woven: Mid-to-heavy weight linen, crisp cotton (twill or poplin), denim, or lightweight wool suiting.

Avoid: Thin, drapey, or "fluid" fabrics like viscose, rayon, or lightweight silk, as they will not hold the shape of the pleats and the structural intent will be lost.
